The main areas where business can improve on sustainability for natural resources is in the area of energy use - predominately for heating, lighting and transportation, and secondly by limiting waste, through recycling and making existing equipment/ materials last longer prior to replacement.

Webecs Consultants Ltd has from its inception seeked to limit its own electricity and gas consumption by only using these fuels when necessary - turning them off when not required.   Transportation is minimised through technology, allowing business to be carried out through video-conferencing, e-mail or telephone, where practicable. Site visits are sometimes necessary, and where these involve international flights, care is taken to ensure the airlines chosen operate according to 'green principles'. Long distance business car journeys (over 100 miles) are discouraged, through the company expenses policy, which makes it less competitive to claim mileage for long journeys, while instead encouraging rail travel, if possible. Although not a heavy user anyway, Webecs Consultants has nevertheless undertaken a programme of reusing equipment or materials wherever possible, which has cut down waste disposal.

Webecs Consultants do not believe global climate change is significantly influenced by reducing our carbon emissions in this way (indeed, any significant climate change impact is outside man's control), however, the company does support the general principles of sustainability and financial husbandry that 'green' policies engender, provided that any cuts in carbon usage are not made so severe as to do more harm than good for the business. With the limited reserves of fossil fuels, Webecs Consultants encourages others also to participate in a balanced 'green' business agenda, as a socially responsible path to minimise environmental degradation for the benefit of future generations.
